I think it depends.
But most of the classes should be discussion-based.
The benefits are that we need to force ourselves to self-study in order to discuss and we can think more critically.
Besides, we are also be more confident to express our ideas.

Personally, I like lecture-based.
I'm not an active learning. I don't want to discuss with my friends or my theacher because it tend to be an alteraction.
I've found that, I learn best through listing and lecturing.
