How do you cheer your friend up when she/he is down?

I saw some of my friends are down or stressed because of the studies. I always cheer them up but I need another good way/words to make them feel better.
what should I do/say?

I will use a lot of jokes in order to make her/him smile and laugh and I will tell her/him to think in the positive way.
If she/he want someone to be a good listener, I will be beside them.
